Challenge: Create a modern shoebox for a London home
The client’s brief was to create a modern and stylish shoebox that could accommodate at least four pairs of shoes and slide under a radiator. The shoebox was to be made from American oak, tension wire, and MDF.

Research and Inspiration
The design process began with a consultation with the client to understand their specific needs and requirements.
The client wanted a shoebox that was both functional and aesthetically pleasing. It needed to be able to store a significant number of shoes, but it also needed to be compact enough to fit under a radiator.
Simple & Elegant
03 Imagine
The designer created a number of sketches and concepts before finalising the design. The final design features a simple, yet elegant form, with clean lines and a minimalist aesthetic.
The shoebox is made from two pieces of American oak, which are connected by a tension wire. The tension wire allows the shoebox to be folded flat for easy storage.
Materials & Process
The shoebox was manufactured using a combination of traditional and modern techniques. The American oak was cut to size and shaped using a router. The tension wire was bent and welded to the oak pieces. The MDF was used to create a back panel for the shoebox.

Dimensions & Details
The oak pieces were sanded and finished with a clear coat of lacquer. The tension wire was powder coated black. The MDF back panel was painted white.

Installation
The shoebox was installed in the client’s home by the designer. The shoebox was simply placed under the radiator. The tension wire allowed the shoebox to be adjusted to fit the space perfectly.
Results
The client was very happy with the finished shoebox. It was both functional and stylish, and it fit perfectly under the radiator. The shoebox was a welcome addition to the client’s home, and it helped to keep their shoes organised and out of the way.
